01 · The shell we were given
Fourteen feet square, and a brand older than the building it sits in.
At 420 sqft there is no slack: display, service, back-of-counter storage and staff movement all have to be resolved together or one of them ends up on the floor. The plan was set from the staff side outward, so the serving sequence works at a tech-park lunch peak.
The brand carries a long heritage, so the material palette and the motifs were selected to read as McRennett rather than as a generic counter, without eating into the footprint. Classic detail, contemporary construction, no ornament that costs area.
